Share Share
The lecture is an initiative of the "Joint Technical Committee 1" which is a scientific committee created by three of the main societies in the field of geotechnics: ISSMGE (International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering), ISRM (International Society of Rock Mechanics) & IAEG (International Association of Engineering Geology).

The JTC1 “Natural Slopes and Landslides” established an International Lecture dedicated to Albert Heim, that would take place every four years during the International Symposium on Landslides.
According to the decision of the committee:

The Heim Lecturer should be an active researcher or professional with a strong track record of work on landslides and/or related phenomena. He/she should be a good communicator who can illustrate their lecture with advanced ideas that are considered to be innovative at the time of the lecture, highlighting both the strength and the vitality of the field. They should have a disciplinary background from one or more of the domains of Soil Mechanics, Rock Mechanics and Engineering Geology, and they should be able to communicate at a technical level with those from those other fields”.

JTC1 is pleased to announce that Professor Eduardo Alonso from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain has been appointed as the 1st Heim Lecturer. The lecture was delivered in Banff (Canada) on June, 4th, 2012, during the 11th International Symposium on Landslides and was entitled:

"Deformation analysis of landslides. Progressive failure, thermal interactions and rate effects"
