Prof. Eduardo Alonso delivers the 10th Croce Lecture

Prof. Alonso receives the commemorative plaque of the 10th Croce Lecture from Prof. Stefano Aversa, president of the AGI

The Council of the Italian Geotechnical Society (AGIblank_page) decided to open the 10th Croce Lecture, normally delivered by professors from the Italian Geotechnical Community, to foreign professors in order to take advantage of their experience and knowledge, and to increase the international value of the Croce Lecture. The first of these foreign lecturers being Prof. Eduardo ALONSO.

In the year 2000 the IGS decided to organise each year a lecture, dedicated to the memory of the late Prof. Arrigo Croce, first professor of Soil Mechanics in Italy, former President of the Italian Geotechnical Society and former Vice-President for Europe of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering.
The choice of the lecturer is done by the Council of the Italian Geotechnical Society following the suggestion of its chairman. The lecturer is asked to deliver a lecture whose objective is to close the gap existing between theory and applications, following - in such a way - the basic ideas of the late Professor Croce. The written version of the lecture is published in one of the four issues of the Italian Geotechnical Journal of the following year.
Prof. Alonso delivered the Tenth Croce Lecture in Rome, on December 15th 2011, in the head office of the Italian National Research Council (CNRblank_page), entitled:
