2nd-4th June 2015
In June 2nd-4th 2015 will be held the Symposium on Energy Geotechnics on behalf of the Technical Committee on Energy Geotechnic (TC308)blank_page of the International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGEblank_page). The Symposium venue will be the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) in Barcelona, Spain. This is the first Symposium of this type and it will provide an excellent opportunity to present your own research in this subject, participate in the discussion panels, learn from leading experts in this topic, and expand your knowledge in this area.
Geotechnical engineering has expanded its domain into the field of Energy Geotechnics. This branch of geotechnical engineering will play a fundamental role in the near future due to the increase in energy demands in the next decades associated with economic development and population growth worldwide. Geotechnical engineering is at the core of the energy challenge. The following main topics will be covered in this Symposium:

  • Gas hydrate sediments
  • Unconventional hydrocarbon. Hydraulic fracturing
  • Energy geo-structure and storage of thermal energy in the ground
  • Energy geo-storage
  • High level radioactive waste disposal
  • Carbon dioxide geological storage
  • Fundamentals of geo-energy
  • Other geotechnical activities related to the energy sector

Please submit your extended abstracts (2 pages) before February 27th 2015 to coordinador.360arrobaupc.edu. Authors of selected abstracts will be offered the opportunity of fast publishing of their full length papers in "Geomechanics for Energy and the Environmentblank_page".
